Our First Lady
India N. Grady is a native of Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, K-9 Teacher Certification from the University of Illinois at Springfield and a Master of Science in Education Degree from Western Illinois University. India is currently in her fourteenth year as an educator. She has taught in Illinois, where she was tenured and Indiana and South Carolina, where she served as a Team Leader. She is a Golden Key International Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi Member. She is featured in the 2006 edition of the Who's Who Among America's Teachers Publication. India is thankful for the opportunities that God has provided her to serve in education and in the AME Church. As a proud AME, she served growing up in her local church in Springfield, Illinois as a junior superintendent of Sunday School, the president of the YPD, youth choir member and as a worship leader. After graduating from college she initiated (YLOVE), Young Ladies of Value & Excellence, served as a young adult choir member, Sunday School Superintendent and Senior Steward. In 2010 India married the Rev. Carey A. Grady and continued to serve in Indiana at Bethel AME Church where her husband served as pastor and she served as the Christian Education Director, founder of the mime ministry for boys and the praise team. She actively participated in the WMS as the Fourth Episcopal District WMS Worship Director and participated in the preparation for the 2013 World of Women Praying Convocation, by organizing the thirty days of prayer without ceasing prayer line with powerful prayer warriors across the district. India was also one of the founding givers for the Indescribable Gift First Ladies Giving Circle, which invests in black women to impact and empower them. She is recognized in the publication Unashamed A Global Faith Formation Window to Contemporary Missionaries by Episcopal Supervisor Rev. Dr. Cecelia Williams Bryant. India has served as the Columbia Conference MSWAWO Corresponding Secretary, the Lancaster District WMS Third Vice President and supporting member of the Annie B. Torain Women's Missionary Society at Reid Chapel AME Church and the praise team. India was the chairperson for the 2017 Reid Chapel Women's Day. India always finds encouragement in the scripture Romans 12:12 NIV "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" |
